MESA, ARIZ. — Sigma Contracting has broken ground on a headquarters and warehouse facility for Potato Barn, a high-end furniture retailer. Situated on 8.4 acres at 7104 E. Ray Road in Mesa, the 100,000-square-foot property will feature 50,000 square feet of retail space, 30,000 square feet of warehouse space and a 20,000-square-foot outlet store. The $7.4 million facility is slated to open in January 2019. Perez McGree is providing architectural services for the project. The family-owned store plans to consolidate its operations into the new facility and close its locations at 4900 E. Power Road and 586 E. Germann Road in Gilbert, Ariz.

SCHERTZ, TEXAS — San Marcos-based EVO Entertainment Group will open a 73,000-square-foot entertainment center within The Wiederstein Ranch shopping center in Schertz, a northeastern suburb of San Antonio. The venue will feature a 10-screen movie theater, 16 bowling lanes, more than 100 arcade games, laser tag, a full restaurant and bar and private event space. Construction is scheduled to begin soon and the opening is slated for February 2019. The Schertz venue will be the company’s fifth location overall in the greater San Antonio area.
AUSTELL, GA. — Atlanta-based Core5 Industrial Partners has unveiled plans to construct a 601,350-square-foot build-to-suit facility for Empire Distributors at 685 Hartman Road in Austell, roughly 18 miles west of Atlanta. Total project costs are estimated at more than $52 million. Upon completion of the property in the fourth quarter, the beverage distributor will relocate to the new facility from its current 300,000-square-foot location at Atlanta Industrial Park. The new climate-controlled facility will house Empire’s corporate headquarters and regional distribution operations, and will include 80,000 square feet of two-story office space. Empire will move more than 440 employees to the new facility, with anticipated growth to more than 510 employees within 10 years. Randall Paulson Architects and Southeast Engineering Inc. are designing the building, Plateau Excavating is the site work contractor, and KBDG Inc. is the general contractor. Bilijack Bell of Wilson, Hull & Real Estate represented Core5 in the land acquisition, and Blaine Kelley of CBRE represented Empire in the acquisition of the facility.
SHERWOOD, ARK. — Denver-based NexCore Group has broken ground on a 42,133-square-foot research and education facility for CHI St. Vincent, an Arkansas-based regional healthcare provider, in the Little Rock suburb of Sherwood. Located at 6020 Warden Road, the facility will be located on CHI St. Vincent’s North Little Rock campus, and will serve as the new home of the Arkansas Neuroscience Institute. The building will include a research laboratory, auditorium, classrooms, an exhibit area and office space for physician practices, expanding the list of services offered to patients on one campus. The Arkansas Neuroscience Institute will relocate its surgical and clinical operations to the new facility by the end of the year. The education and research center is expected to open in early 2019.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — Atlanta-based New Realm Brewing has unveiled plans to open a second brewery and taproom in Virginia Beach. New Realm is partnering with The Miller Group to lease a 58,000-square-foot facility, located four miles from the oceanfront at 1209 Craft Lane. The space formerly housed Green Flash Brewing Co. The new brewery will be capable of brewing 40,000 barrels annually and will feature a tasting room, outdoor beer garden and private event space. The facility will open upon receiving applicable licenses required for operation. Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and Mitch Steele founded New Realm in 2016. The brewery’s 20,000-square-foot flagship facility opened in January 2018 along the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Transwestern Development Co. has acquired 1.6 acres in downtown Austin for the development of Block 36, a 263-unit multifamily community. Block 36 will consist primarily of studio units with approximately 14 percent of the units being two-bedroom residences. In addition to having a 3,000-square-foot ground-floor restaurant space, the community will offer amenities such as a pool, fitness center, clubroom, business lounge and an elevated courtyard with fire pits. Wilder Belshaw, an architecture firm with offices in the Dallas and Austin area, is handling design of the project, and Comerica Bank is providing construction financing. Transwestern expects to break ground on the property in January 2019 and deliver it during the first half of 2020.
CHICAGO — Global Builders Inc. has broken ground on a 42,000-square-foot retail development located at 637-647 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago. The project developer is 635-647 W. Roosevelt Road LLC. Bob’s Discount Furniture will anchor the property and lease two of the three floors. Completion is slated for this fall. James Schutter, Terry Alexa and Luke Sementa of Newmark Knight Frank will handle lease-up of the remaining 10,000 square feet of space on the first floor.
DALLAS — Alabama-based general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie has completed Medical City Women’s Hospital Dallas, a $125 million healthcare project that was developed within the 801-bed Medical City Dallas Hospital. The project added five floors and 222 private rooms to Care Tower D at the complex. Other project features include 24 labor and delivery rooms, 84 neonatal intensive care units, 12 VIP suites and 16 medical/surgical rooms. National architecture firm Perkins + Will designed the property.
OCOEE, FLA. — McCraney Property Co. has acquired 43.9 acres in Ocoee, roughly 12 miles west of Orlando, with plans to develop a 652,696-square-foot industrial park. Dubbed Distribution 429, the development will include three buildings: Building 100, totaling 104,950 square feet; Building 200, totaling 145,164 square feet; and Building 300, totaling 402,582 square feet. William “Bo” Bradford of Lee & Associates represented the undisclosed seller in the land sale. McCraney expects to break ground on the development later this month. The buildings will target end-users requiring freight forwarding, third-party logistics and fulfillment needs.
SEATTLE — Capitol Seniors Housing, a Washington, D.C.-based private equity firm, has completed renovations to four of its independent living and assisted living communities in the Seattle metro area. MBK Senior Living, based in Irvine, Calif., operates all four properties. The communities include Northgate Plaza, Mountlake Terrace, The Creekside and Island House. Renovations included the addition of wine/coffee bistro areas, activity spaces, fitness rooms, game rooms and libraries. Interior work included new furniture, fixtures, flooring, paint, cabinets and lighting upgrades. Community exteriors received fresh paint and landscaping. Residential suite renovations included new paint, flooring, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances and light fixtures.
