ANAHEIM, CALIF. — WNC and its subsidiary Community Preservation Partners (CPP), along with nonprofit Jamboree Housing Corp., have completed the $6.56 million (or $36,635 per unit) renovation of Miracle Terrace Apartments in Anaheim. WNC provided approximately $17 million in low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) equity to help fund the acquisition of and renovations to the 179-unit, age-restricted, affordable community. The community features 71 studio units, 107 one-bedroom units, and a single two-bedroom unit for the onsite manager. The community is open to seniors age 62 and older with household incomes between 35 percent and 60 percent of the area’s median income level. CPP is an affordable housing rehabilitation company that owns more than 5,000 units across the United States.

OAHU, HAWAII — Jersey Mike’s Subs opened its first restaurant on a military base, with a new location at Schofield Barracks in Oahu. The company plans to open restaurants at two other military installations in 2018. The 490-square-foot sub shop, located in the Army & Air Force Exchange Service food court, is staffed almost entirely by local residents connected to service members at the installation. The Schofield Barracks location is the 54th Jersey Mike’s restaurant for franchise owner Alvaro Garcia, whose other locations are in California and Hawaii. Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide.
BLOOMINGDALE, GA. — Atlanta-based flooring retailer Floor & Decor has opened a 1.4 million-square-foot distribution center in Bloomingdale, roughly 15 miles west of Savannah. The facility is located within Morgan Business Center, a 250-acre industrial park located near the intersection of Interstates 16 and 95. The center is roughly 11 miles from the Port of Savannah. The retailer will use the facility to store and distribute merchandise to stores across the eastern U.S. Duke Realty developed the project and CBRE handled the center’s leasing assignment. The new facility brings an additional 30 jobs to the Savannah area.
Henkel Completes Construction of 155,000 SF Headquarters Facility in Stamford, Connecticut

STAMFORD, CONN. — Henkel, with Ware Malcomb as architect, has completed its North American consumer goods headquarters, located at 200 Elm St. in downtown Stamford. The 155,000-square-foot space accommodates 425 employees from Henkel’s Beauty Care and Laundry and Home Care businesses, with room for growth. The three-story facility integrates Henkel’s previous locations into one, with the largest numbers of employees being from the company’s former consumer goods headquarters in Scottsdale, Ariz., and from Wilton, Conn.-based The Sun Products Corp., which Henkel acquired in 2016. The property features research and development space on the first floor and office space on the remaining floors. Founded in 1876, Henkel is a global manufacturer and marketer of brands, including Persil, Purex, all detergents, Snuggle fabric softeners, Dial soaps, Right Guard antiperspirants, Schwarzkopf hair care, and göt2b hair styling projects. Ware Malcomb provided interior architecture and design, lab planning and branding services for the project. Turner Construction served as general contractor, and CBRE provided brokerage and project management services.
LOMBARD, ILL. — Pacific Retail Capital Partners (PRCP) and Clifton Realty Management have redeveloped Yorktown Center in Lombard to include a 12,000-square-foot “self-care” component. The new section allows shoppers and nearby residents to conduct all their self-care needs in one place. Tenants include The Barre Code, CycleBar, Orangetheory Fitness, Amazing Lash Studio and European Wax Center. An additional 40,000-square-foot unnamed fitness concept is slated to open late this summer. Yorktown Center is a 1.5 million-square-foot shopping center.
CHICAGO — Harrison Street Real Estate Capital LLC, based in Chicago, has formed a joint venture with Crosslane Property Group UK Limited to develop a portfolio of four student housing properties totaling 1,267 beds. The properties will be located in Leeds, Coventry, Portsmouth and Swansea, which are cities in the United Kingdom that have a combined enrollment of more than 131,000 students. Gross development value for the four properties is approximately $175 million. Harrison Street’s European student housing portfolio comprises more than 7,000 beds in ownership or under construction across Ireland, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
OLATHE, KAN. — Kessinger/Hunter & Co. is developing its third speculative industrial building within the I-35 Logistics Park in Olathe. The 567,115-square-foot industrial warehouse, known as Building C, will be located directly to the east of the existing 821,663-square-foot Building B. KGPCo, a provider of supply chain and network transformation solutions for the communications industry, has pre-leased 251,873 square feet of space at Building C. Tom Walrich of Lee & Associates represented KGPCo in the lease transaction. Bentall Kennedy advised ownership and has been retained as the asset manager of the new building, as well as Building B and remaining development sites. Completion of Building C is slated for the end of 2018. The project team includes Merit General Contractors, Bozich Architects, TranSystems and BSE Structural Engineers.
ST. PETERS, MO. — CBL & Associates Properties Inc. will renovate its Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters, about 30 miles west of St. Louis. A new H&M store will open at the property this fall, requiring three other retailers to relocate to different spaces within the mall. H&M is a women’s and men’s apparel store. Claire’s will move to a 1,250-square-foot store on the lower level. Justice will relocate to a 4,100-square-foot space on the lower level near Dillard’s and Lane Bryant will move to a 5,000-square-foot space on the lower level in the Dillard’s wing. Next month, a pop-up shop will open at the mall, enabling local boutiques to try their business in a mall setting for one week at a time. Other interior projects at the mall include replacing the escalators, improving the elevators and installing new digital directories. All interior projects are slated for completion by this summer. As for exterior improvements, the parking lot will be upgraded to include LED lighting and 24 more poles will be installed. The majority of the lot will be resurfaced this year and the remaining portion will be completed in 2019.
MIDLAND, TEXAS — Adolfson & Peterson Construction has topped out the new, 105,801-square-foot engineering building located on the University of Texas of the Permian Basin’s (UTPB) campus in Midland. Designed by Stantec Architects, the three-story building will contain classrooms, lecture halls, faculty offices, student collaboration spaces and labs for a variety of engineering activities. The project will also deliver a new parking lot. Overall completion is slated for April 2019.
KATY, TEXAS — NewQuest Properties has unveiled plans for the Phase II expansion of Katy Grand, a 21.7-acre, cinema-anchored retail development in Katy. Phase II will deliver 36,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on 7.4 acres in late fall. Leases with three new tenants — Japanese book retailer Kinokuniya, Taiwanese eatery 85C Bakery Café and Kula Revolving Sushi Bar — have already been signed.
