TOMS RIVER, N.J. — The Walters Group has opened Cornerstone at Toms River, a 102-unit active adult community in Toms River, approximately 60 miles south of New York City. A grand opening was held Sept. 14 for the community, which is restricted to residents over the age of 55. The Walters Group developed the three-story property. Cornerstone at Toms River also features income-restricted units, and gives residency priority to seniors whose homes were impacted by Superstorm Sandy.
LOS ANGELES — The Crack Shack, an all-day chicken and egg restaurant, is opening its first Los Angeles location at Westfield Century City. Slated to open in spring 2018, the restaurant is owned by Michael Rosen, chef Richard Blais and chef Jon Sloan. Century City will be the restaurant’s fourth location and will feature outdoor patio dining, picnic-style seating, fire pits and communal-dining fire tables, a bocce ball court and open-air children’s play spaces. The Crack Shack is currently located in San Diego and Encinitas, Calif., with a third location opening in Costa Mesa later this year.
TYLER, TEXAS — McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. will build an expansion project for CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital, located at 800 E. Dawson St. in Tyler. The project will deliver two new trauma rooms, 48 ICU beds, an emergency room with 54 treatment beds and two helipads. It will also replace the existing parking garage with a 297,000-square-foot structure, construction of which began earlier this year and is expected to be complete by March 2018.
NEWTON, MASS. — Chesapeake Lodging Trust has completed a multi-million renovation at Boston Marriott Newton, located at 2345 Commonwealth Ave. in Newton. The large-scale renovation program included upgrades to all 430 guest rooms, including the bi-level presidential suite, the lobby, guest corridors, all meetings rooms and the 9,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom. All guest rooms feature a 50-inch flat screen television, a workstation, Wi-Fi access, mini refrigerators, in-room safes and coffee makers. The hotel also features a newly redesigned Concierge Lounge on the seventh floor that caters to business travelers. Atlanta-based Design Directions International led the hotel’s renovations. TPG Hotels & Resorts, an affiliate of Procaccianti Cos., operates the hotel, which is owned by Chesapeake Lodging.
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. — A joint venture between The Picerne Group and Shopoff Realty Investments has broken ground on Phase I of Uptown Newport, a 25-acre mixed-use development located in Newport Beach. The first phase of development will include 462 residential units, 218 for-sale condominiums, 6,500 square feet of restaurants and a one-acre public park. Leasing will begin for the residential units in 2019. At completion, the project will feature 1,244 residential units, up to 11,500 square feet of retail and restaurants and two one-acre parks.
DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Rexnord Corp. will build a new manufacturing facility and aerospace headquarters in Downers Grove, about 20 miles west of Chicago. Rexnord will replace its existing 200,000-square-foot facility, built in 1956 and located at 2400 Curtiss St. within the Ellsworth Business Park. The 248,000-square-foot facility is slated for completion by 2019. The Downers Grove Economic Development Corp. worked closely with the project’s consulting firm, Cushman & Wakefield. Milwaukee-based Rexnord manufactures motion control, aerospace and water management products.
ATLANTA — MAA, a multifamily REIT based in Memphis, Tenn., has opened Post Midtown Atlanta, a 332-unit multifamily community located at 33 11th St. N.W. in Atlanta’s Midtown district. MAA acquired Post Properties in 2016, but continues to brand assets under the Post name. The new property includes studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units with rents starting at $1,670 per month. Individual units feature built-in desks and bookshelves, 10-foot ceilings, quartz countertops and gas cooking stoves. Community amenities include a swimming pool with sundeck, club terrace, outdoor living and dining areas, fitness center, pet park, cycle room and a conference library. Post Midtown Atlanta is within walking distance of Piedmont Park and MARTA’s Midtown station.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Boston – Cambridge has completed a $4 million renovation to the guest suites. The renovation will introduce the brand’s modern suite concept, Urban Bed, to the Boston market. Each of the 170 two-room Urban Bed suites offer travelers a flexible living space with a full-size pull-down bed that can be utilized on demand. Unlike a sofa bed, the Urban Bed does not fold, providing additional guests the same comfort of a standard DoubleTree Suites by Hilton bed. Additionally, the suites feature a microwave, refrigerator and coffeemaker in the living room, as well as a separate bedroom with a king-sized bed. Other renovations include upgrades to the remaining 138 guest rooms, including King Bed guest rooms with balconies, standard two-room King Suites, two-story Loft King Suites and the Presidential Suite. Additionally, the property’s Scullers Jazz Club was renovated to increase its capacity to 200 seats per show.
SPOTSYLVANIA, VA. — Humanities Foundation, in conjunction with James Doran Co., has broken ground on Keswick Senior Apartments, a 100-unit seniors housing community in Spotsylvania. The $16 million development is located within Keswick, a residential community under development by Jarrell Properties Inc. Located at the intersection of Lake Anna Parkway and Old Robert E. Lee Drive, the community will include 700 townhomes, single-family homes and apartments. Keswick Senior Apartments will features a security system, a community space with a meeting area, business center, exercise room, laundry facility, gazebo and a garden area. The project is being built utilizing Low Income Housing Tax Credits administered by the Virginia Housing and Development Authority. Citi Community Capital provided construction financing for the project with Boston Capital as the syndicator. The project team includes architect Martin Riley Associates, civil engineer Webb & Associates and land broker Coldwell Banker Elite/Coldwell Banker Commercial.
HILLSBORO, TEXAS — Gate Precast Co., a Florida-based producer of architectural concrete, will add a 45,000-square-foot manufacturing plant to its existing facility in Hillsboro, approximately midway between Fort Worth and Waco. The addition of the new property, which will be situated on 25 acres near Spur 579 and Industrial Loop, is expected to create 40 new jobs. Construction is slated to begin in January.
