JOLIET, ILL. — Peak Construction Corp. has broken ground on a new 80,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center for Blue Ribbon Product Co. in Joliet, south of Naperville. The seven-acre site is located in IDI Gazeley’s Rock Run Business Park. The warehouse and distribution center will include 6,000 square feet of corporate office space, a custom-designed training/tasting room, two break rooms, a 4,500-square-foot cooler, a 500-square-foot repacking room, four dock positions and three drive-through loading lanes with possible expansion into a fourth. The project is slated for completion at the end of June. Mike Fonda, Hugh Williams, Matt Knafel and Anne McGrath of Avison Young represented the tenant. Peak has teamed up with Partners in Design Architects Inc. and Jacob & Hefner Associates on the project.

LIVERMORE, CALIF. — Exeter Property Group has purchased 13.5 acres of land in East Livermore for $9 million. The property is located at the southeast corner of Greenville Road and I-580. The group plans to build a 260,000-square-foot, Class A distribution facility on the site. The project is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the fourth quarter of this year.

SEATTLE — Atlas Workbase has opened a new 20,000-square-foot coworking space at the Lumen Building in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. The space will cater to mature companies, small businesses and executives, meaning managers and consultants rather than the traditional start-up crowd. The space is targeting professional industries like retail banking, insurance and law that seek a professional shared workspace. Atlas Workbase was designed in conjunction with Gensler and OpenSquare. It was created with partners including FedEx Office, Steelcase and Philips Lighting. Atlas previously announced a partnership with FedEx Office. The company has opened an in-house print and ship center inside its Mercer Street facility.

WINCHESTER, VA. — Navy Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest credit union, has broken ground on its new 180,000-square-foot office building in Winchester. Navy Federal has invested $100 million to expand into the three-story facility, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2018. The Winchester facility will house about 1,400 employees, which are currently spread between two different facilities in Virginia’s Frederick County. Vienna, Va.-based Navy Federal has more than $79 billion in assets, 6 million members and 296 branches.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA. — A joint venture between Childress Klein and MidCity Real Estate Partners has purchased 3.7 acres of land in Sandy Springs for the development of NorthPlace, a two-building office campus totaling 370,000 square feet. Situated within Atlanta’s Central Perimeter office submarket, the office development will sit at the intersection of Barfield Road and Mount Vernon Highway, one block from the new Mercedes-Benz U.S. headquarters and two blocks from the Sandy Springs MARTA station. Comprising a 250,000-square-foot building and 120,000-square-foot building, NorthPlace will offer signage visibility along Ga. 400. Childress Klein and MidCity will co-develop the property, and MidCity will oversee day-to-day construction responsibilities and will market the project to prospective corporate and medical tenants. A timeline for construction has not been announced at this time.

WILMER, TEXAS — Bob Moore Construction has broken ground for Interpoint Distribution Center in Wilmer. Developed by Houston-based Skyhawk Partners, the 350,000-square-foot industrial facility will feature a cross-dock design and 32-foot clear heights. Construction is currently in the site work phase, with completion slated for later this year.

COLUMBIA, MD. — Kimco Realty Corp. has completed the $18.1 million redevelopment of Wilde Lake Village Center, a mixed-use development in Columbia that features 230 residential rental units, 30,000 square feet of office space, 41,000 square feet of retail space and 20,000 square feet of restaurants. As part of the redevelopment, Kimco is remerchandising the center and has recently executed leases with three tenants. Starbucks Coffee is opening both a café and a drive thru in the fall, Dynamic Dental Care LLC opened in December and Salons by JC is scheduled to open early this fall above David’s Natural Market.

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. — Erickson Living, one of the largest seniors housing operators in the United States, has announced a Phase II expansion of Lantern Hill, the company’s 161-unit independent living community in New Providence, approximately 30 miles west of New York City. The expansion will add 114 additional independent living units to the property, for a total of 275. The new units will be in two new buildings scheduled to open in early 2018. Long-term, Erickson plans to turn the 20-acre property into a 360-unit continuing care retirement community. The first independent living phase opened in June 2016 and sold out in 10 weeks, according to Erickson.

REVERE, MASS. — Nauset Construction has completed the second phase of renovations to the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in the Boston suburb of Revere. Genesis HealthCare operates the community, which Donahue Architects designed. Phase II included the installation of rooftop mechanical units, new fire protection systems, lighting and finishes throughout the entire third floor. Site work included parking lot and sidewalk reconstruction including handicap accessibility enhancements. Phase I, which The Architectural Team designed, included construction of a three-story, 17,000-square-foot addition and the renovation of an additional 10,000 square feet of existing space, providing the facility with 12 short-term rehabilitation beds; suites for physical, occupational and speech therapy; medical offices; clinical space; and a 2,700-square-foot rehabilitation gymnasium.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — Wegmans plans to open a new 130,000-square-foot grocery store at Town Center of Virginia Beach. Situated near the intersection of Virginia Beach and Independence boulevards, the store will feature a parking deck in front and a mezzanine level for café seating. Wegmans is expected to create hundreds of jobs and invest millions of dollars in the new store. The Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer currently has 10 other stores in Virginia.
